It is a large brown hawk distinguishable from all similar birds by its forked tail. Both the sexes are alike. It can be seen singly or gregariously scavenging in towns and villages. It feeds on Offal and garbage, earthworms, winged termites, lizards, mice, disabled or young birds etc. It nests on an untidy platform of twigs, iron wire, tow, rags up in a large tree or on the roofs or cornice of a building. Its eggs are dirty pinkish white in colour, lightly spotted and blotched with reddish brown.It is found throughout the Indian union, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.
