It is popularly known as the Monarch Butterfly all over the world. It is also known as the common tiger and is a well known migrant.It is found throughout India in areas of heavy rainfall, preferably forest areas and scrub jungles, upto a height of 2700m in the hills. It Mimics the Tiger Palmfly Elymnias nesaea and the Lacewings. It visits flowers of Lantana, Fiddle-leavedJatropha, FeatherCocks'comb, Radish, Indian Chessnut, Soapnut Tree, Chinese Sunac, Cadillo, etc. It feeds on milkweeds especially Blood flower, Madagascar Jasmine, Ceropegia, etc.
