The adult has a brownish black upperside with variable number of bright green spots and stripes. The tail is stumpy in male and longer in female. Male has a scent wool in the dorsal fold. The underside of this butterfly is pale brown with black and red spots in the hindwing. Its wingspan is 85-100mm. It occurs in heavy rainfall regions. Though a resident of wooded country, it frequents city gardens where its favourite host plant, the Mast tree is grown.
