Biography
Prof. Raghu Prakash received his Master's and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras (now Chennai). He has more than three decades of post-PhD work experience, as a Scientist at CSIR-NAL; Technical Director of a start-up company in Bangalore, India; Visiting Professor/Scientist at National Taiwan University, Taipei, ROC before joining IIT Madras as a Faculty in 2004.
His research interests include Product design, Mechanical Design of structures and components, Experimental techniques for durability assessment under real-time usage, crash assessment of automotive structural elements. He has more than 100 journal, book chapter publications (many in ASTM STP’s) and more than 100 Conference publications and has edited 7 book volumes; he has guided 64 Master’s dissertations, 20 Master’s (M.S.) theses and 14 Ph.D. theses since 2004. At IIT Madras, he teaches courses relating to Design with Engineering Materials, Product Design, Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA), apart from being a researcher and consultant to several Industries.
Prof. Prakash is a voting rights member of ASTM International (Technical Committees, D-30, E-08 and E-28), past Chair of the Materials Processing Technical Committee of the Materials Division of ASME and executive council member of a number of professional societies.
