We strive to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of stereo preference in enzymes using Candida parapsilosis ATCC 7330 as model system. Using state-of-the-art laboratory techniques in structural, chemical, and cellular biology means, we translate the basic research findings into the treatment and development of therapeutics for human diseases (see more details about our Research).
Postdoctoral fellows
Successful candidates are expected to have strong background in one or more fields viz. Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, independently work, provide suggestions on projects, and work together with Graduate students and Research Assistants. One to two years of financial support is provided depending on performance but for following years it is highly recommended to secure external fellowships or transition grants for the candidates who want to become an independent academic faculty (see Resources for fellowship and grant opportunities).
Research Assistants
Candidates are expected to be comfortable and trustworthy with basic laboratory chemistry to do biocatalysis. Basic knowledge and reasonable hands-on experience in molecular biology, eukaryotic protein expression, and purification are required. Postgraduates/Premed students who want to have lab experience are welcomed.
Graduate Students
Post-Graduate students accepted to the Ph.D. or M.S./Ph.D. graduate programs in IITM are eligible to apply for these positions.Entrance exams and interviews will happen in four separate streams. The four streams are: (A) Biological Sciences (B) Bioengineering (C) Chemical Sciences and (D) Computational Biology. Candidates will be examined in the stream(s) chosen by them, at the time of filling out the online application.
Candidates will be short-listed for the interview based on performance in the screening test(s). Final decision on selection will be made based on overall performance.
Please see details about the Graduate Program in Biotechnology and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras website, and find student life in various academic activities and beautiful IITM Campus.
Undergraduate students
Various laboratory experiments employing cutting-edge biochemical and biophysical techniques are available to participate. With the results, students are allowed to write their theses.
Summer internship/Volunteers
Minimum six months of voluntary involvement in active research projects is only reserved for undergraduates and high school students who have clear understanding about our research goal and want to become future biochemical scientists.
