Arvind Pattamatta is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He received his Ph.D. from SUNY, Buffalo, NY in 2009. His research interests are in the area of microscale energy transport and thermal management of devices. Prof Arvind Pattamatta is also the founding coordinator for the ISRO-IIT Madras Centre of excellence for Fluid and Thermal sciences since 2025.
Alexander von Humboldt fellowship (2013)
INAE Young Engineer Award (2015)
JSPS invitational fellowship (2017)
His doctoral research focused on the coalescence dynamics of small droplets during condensation on superhydrophobic surfaces, combining experiments with numerical simulations. His broader research interest lies in applying the fundamentals of interfacial phenomena on engineered surfaces to design advanced devices that harness phase-change heat transfer for high performance cooling technologies.
Co-Guide: Prof. Sarit K. Das
As a Prime Minister’s Research Fellow (PMRF), he is currently studying flow boiling in parallel microchannel evaporators using IR cameras, specifically looking at applications in spacecraft electronics cooling.
Co-Guide: Prof. Ramesh Narayanaswamy (Curtin University).
He is currently working on spray cooling using an IR camera. His research focuses on the thermal analysis of sprays for electronic cooling applications.
Co-Guide: Prof. Peter Stephan (TU Darmstadt, Germany)
Co-Guide: Prof. Pallab Sinha Mahapatra
His passion lies in heat transfer with particular focus on electronic cooling, two phase flows and convective heat transfer.
Co-Guide: Prof. Pallab Sinha Mahapatra
Focuses on cooling high-power where she worked on Phase Change Materials for thermal applications. Her current focus is on cooling high-power electronic devices by enhancing heat dissipation efficiency by integrating fins in vapor chamber design.
Co-Guide: Prof. Sarit Kumar Das
She completed her BTech in Chemical Engineering from APEC Anna University and M.S in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras. Her research focuses on battery thermal management systems
Sathyasree is a Research Scholar at the IIT Madras, working in the area of immersion cooling for advanced thermal management of lithium-ion battery systems, within the desired temperature range using phase-change techniques like heat pipes, flow boiling etc.
