It is olive brown above with a pale super cilium and eye ring. Its wings are blackish brown with large yellow patches forming two prominent bands. Its tail is dark brown and white edged. It has a blackish brown collar across the throat and a second interrupted one on breast diagnostic taken with the double wing bands. It is seen in evergreen and deciduous forests. It is seen in cardamom and coffee plantations. It feed on insects, spiders and other invertebrates. Its nesting season is in May (Assam). Its nest is a small neat cup of twigs, leaves etc., matted together with moss and cobwebs placed on a horizontal branch. Its eggs are grey with purple blotches.
