It is a white spotted pinkish bird with brown and grey upperparts. It has a white and black `chessboard` on the hindneck which are very characteristic of this particular species. Both the sexes are alike. It can be seen in pairs or groups in wooded countries, gleaning in stubble fields, or on cross country cart tracks. Its flight is swift and strong which is attained by vigorous wing strokes. It can be seen in open well-wooded and cultivated country. It becomes quite tame and confiding if unmolested, freely entering gardens and verandas of bungalows. Its nesting season is undefined which can be thought as particularly throughout the year. Its eggs are white in colour. Both the sexes share all the domestic duties.
