It is found in open scrub jungles and un-cultivated agricultural land. It is fond of sunniest patches and streambeds. It is territorial like other Pansies. The male can be seen pugnaciously chasing its own kind. Besides Aztec Marigold, it visits flowers of Lantana, Lindley Butterfly bush, Bachelor's Button, etc.
