The adult Common Banded Peacock has a brownish black upperside, with green
scales. Both wings have a bluish green discal band, pointed towards the apex
in the male. A red/crimson semilunar marking is present in the apex of the
hind wing. The hind wing is marked with a red-ringed black ocellus in the
tornus and a green or blue-tipped tail. Bands are broader in the male than in
the female. Its underside is similar to the upperside but with dull pale
greenish brown to blackish brown with clear bands. Its wingspan is 80-100mm.
It is a swift flier with wavering flight. It is abundant mostly during
south-west monsoon season.
